Volume 6 | Winter 2026

Building Blocks

An ideal visual of the care and effort which God puts into constructing your very being: The Cathedral.  To each of your children He is giving the same effort, and He invites you into the process.  How do you join Him in this magnificent work? Dive into this volume of Sound Harbor and discover the labor and awe of the construction of actual cathedrals. Sit in the great thoughts of PNEU speaker on the purpose and result of Charlotte Mason's educational approach.  (Here's a sample "...the education advocated by the P.N.E.U. has a very high and lofty ideal, namely, the training of a generation of men and women, who, if not the best, will at least be their best..." and it keeps getting better; make sure you reach the final paragraph!) Wrestle with the brilliantly communicated speech of James Garfield in a time of great political and national upheaval. (So useful for our own time!) Get a peek into the school timetables of yours truly, the CMNW Leadership Team. And that's just some of the treasures buried inside.

Volume 5 | Fall 2025

A Cozy Holiday

Truly, this magazine volume epitomizes the joyful contentment and warm happiness of shared ideas and experiences. Love yourself and your family enough to make a few minutes to gather with your family and read a few of these articles together. You'll be encouraged by the conversations and ideas that draw you together. Come meet Grandma Moses; Learn how winter can be a time of rest; Discover the recipe for the perfect pickle!

Volume 4 | Summer 2025

Summer Doldrums

Perspective may be the key to it all. You may be looking for one solution, thinking that it's the only one that can bring the useful and beautiful together for your situation. But, perhaps you can step back a little, look through the eyes of The Artist (The Original and Continual Creator) and see that there are brand new ways to see the cracks and pieces. Trust, and let the Lord add a little gold to your life, and be inspired by Japanese Kintsugi art, which is a physical representation of our own spirits under God's restoration.

Volume 3 | Spring 2025

Marmee's Rag Bag

The Charlotte Mason education can feel like a chaotic ragbag in our day to day. Short subject times and a large variety of topics and stack of books can seem like a mess when you’re in the middle of it. When you’ve been at it awhile, you can take a step back and see the beautiful tapestry that is being woven - as Mason calls it, the Science of Relations. All of those seemingly random topics connect in our student’s minds and help them to make sense of the world. To solve the big problems that need solving or provide insight into life.

Volume 2 | Winter 2025

Gleam of Light

When we began discussing our winter magazine, the idea of light was offered up as a possible theme. In this season of great darkness (winter) that can threaten to overwhelm us, and in the wake of the celebration of the incarnation of the Light of the world, we strive to hold the duality of the joy of Christ’s birth with the ultimate reason for His coming in the flesh: His death and resurrection. May your heart also be kindled by the light of Christ through the long nights of darkness that are still in our future.

Volume 01 | Fall 2024

Courage for Community

When we were brainstorming possible themes for the first newsletter (later renamed "magazine"), we soon settled on community. Not all of us have a physical community of like-minded homeschooling families around us, but when you interact with our community we want you to feel seen, encouraged, and loved. As you read through this edition, we hope you enjoy the variety of offerings within – from an example of recitation, to beautiful artwork,  to a map highlighting the location of Charlotte Mason groups in the Pacific Northwest.
